An Ancient Hypocrisy Stronger Than Ever

Okay so it seems that this blog is basically boiling down to a religious themed collection of texts. And why change a good thing? (*vomit...*) So I was sharing the Hasidic Reggae singer Matisyahu with Detty today, and he thought it was so novel and stated, "I bet Hasidic Jews aren't even allowed to listen to Reggae..." To be honest I have no idea if they are or not. But that got me thinking... What if I suggested to my old parish that they invite Matisyahu to do a show at the church... would they allow it? Probably not. Why? Different religion. His songs are all about spirituality and asking God for forgiveness and striving to be one with God and feeling the exaultation of his light inside of us.... But he wouldn't be allowed. Different God. It's not even a different God, it's a God with a different name. For Christ's sake could religious folk just grow up already? Are your gestures that empty that you have to sweat the details so hard? You have so little to cling to except your specific ceremonies and prayers and teachings that if you don't hear the same rotation of scripture during the church calendar you just might go apeshit? They used to give us this phrase... "Let Go and Let God." But this phrase has very selective meaning. What they're really saying is, "Let go of the things that we don't want you to have in your life because we believe we shouldn't have it in our life..." I think religious people more than anybody else need to really let go and let God. They're trying to force God. They need to just let it happen and really feel it in their thunder. I know it's cliche bullshit to be all, "I believe in God, but not in organized religion"... but seriously any scripts that were written in this world were not written by God. Don't get me wrong, some scripts written in this world ARE God and create God every time they're brought to life but that's just the thing. Catholics and the rest of them aren't truly interested in the Living Word... Just their little club with the secret handshakes...

Everybody with a religious background probably has one relative who's been trying to ban MTV for like 10 years because it's exploitive to women. Not to ride george carlin's jock too much but during one of his lectures, he makes the aside, "You could ban religion and most sex crimes would probably go away after a couple generations..." The reason that's true is because humans are trying to turn their humanity into guilt. They feel awkward because God is so pure and they just want to hump things like animals. So they forbid themselves part of their own humanity, and then down the road like the guy in Chocolat who succumbs to the candy feast at the end, they slip up and end up with a mouth full of boy taint, and then they get to feel better about themselves by asking god for forgiveness. Then you walk in on the same relative who's been trying to ban MTV for 10 years, and he's bating it to the Paris Hilton video, and you're like, "So, is THAT exploitive to women? What's that some kind of new sacrament? Huh? Is that your pennance you got from the priest for writing too many swear words in your letters to MTV? Huh? Is that the new Stations of the Cross?" Religious people are so concerned with making others abide by what their parents told them growing up, and not nearly as concerned about themself. And why should they be? They've already been saved. They're more worried about the rules than actually feeling the passion of God's people.

By the way, I mentioned the thing about Carlin's idea about religion and sex crimes and altar boys getting molested... People say that pedophilia is a disease that can't be cured. Let me explain why that is, or at least why it's seen that way. As I said, traditional religious people try to deny themselves their own humanity because the idea of god in their minds is so pure that they feel shame. Religion is organized guilt. But the truth is that some humans are just plain attracted to boys. It's not a disease, it's not even something that needs to be an issue. But it happens to be against the law because the laws were all created by religious people. Back in ancienct greece when b.l. was common, nobody gave a shit, and those boys grew up to be fully functional heterosexual breadwinners. People say that 'molesting' children can screw them up, and the only reason that's true is because the church is everywhere to cast satan's shadow on everything. Consensual sex between boys in ancient greece and their philosophical mentors wasn't seen as something that would have everybody in the land looking at you differently like it does in our conformist culture. It's true in some cases that children are too young to make decisions like that, and that's why nothing should be done that would hurt them, but emotional problems from things like that is all due entirely to the society we have today. I am a good example. When I was a young boy, I was inapropriately touched by a doctor who we later found out was gay and got kicked out of his practice for god-knows-what. But, because at the time, I thought it was part of a doctor's appointment--which we are taught is a good thing important to everybody--I didn't give a shit. Because it's all in context. I still don't give a shit, I don't feel victimized, or taken advantage of, in fact I hope he got his rocks off good that night because it's not easy being an enemy of organized religions everywhere. Granted, people that know me would probably say I'm messed up in the head and possibly gay (like my girlfriend, for one ;-) but I consider myself to be very well adjusted. Now if the same thing happened to me, and a big issue had been made about it where people told me that I had been abused by an evil man, at the time that would have been an entirly different context and might have had different effects on me. But that's just religion trying to make everybody feel awkward about everything. As we learned in Hamlet, "There is nothing either good nor bad, but thinking makes it so..." It really is all in how we see it. And it's sort of amusing that the Roman Catholic church is pretty much crumbling with the epidemic of Priests doing things with boys... Because they're supposed to be moral leaders. I wish religious people would just forget about their morality and concern themselves with the only reason they were brought down to this world... which is so that they might transform the darkness into light... Working towards ending suffering and being excellent to each other rather than bombing people in political/religious wars and ostrocizing people with different sexualities. Another great carlin observation: "More people have been killed in the name of god than for any other reason... Millions of dead motherfuckers, all because they gave the wrong answer to the god question... 'Do you believe in god?' 'No'. *thud* Dead. ... or 'Do you believe in god?' ..'Yes...' .....'do you believe in MY god?' 'No...' *thud* Dead.... 'My god has a bigger dick than your god!."

I'd say the real hypocrisy (or not so much hypocrisy as irony) is white society's embrace of a genre so heavily influenced by anti-white racism. Like if blacks decided to put on minstrel shows. (Of course, blacks have put on minstrel shows, but then it's a way of reappropriating something stolen from them. The white man's love of reggae [and then ska] has more to do with bad taste than principled statement.)
